This 1990 album was Delbert McClinton's first studio effort since 1981's Plain From the Heart. Not much changed in the intervening years. The Texas bluesman was still doing what he's always done: horn-heavy jams that melt rock, country, soul and R&B into a funky Americana stew. The only difference is the production. It was 1990, after all; I'm With You doesn't sound that far removed from the Fabulous Thunderbirds or Jeff Healey or even Glenn Frey's "The Heat Is On," only more authentic.
