After initially self-releasing Ode to Sunshine in 2007, San Diego's Delta Spirit quickly obtained a devoted following, compelling them to re-release their debut on a larger scale. It's easy to hear why. Driven by hints of Brit pop, garage rock and folksy Americana, they interweave piano ballads and acoustic rollicks with ease. Upbeat lullabies coated with Beatles harmonies sit cozily alongside shaky shouts a la Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dylan-like harmonica intros and twinkling, pub-friendly romps. Comparisons may abound, but they succeed at creating a fresh sound all their own.
