Whatever's Cool With Me

Whatever's Cool With Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Released: Oct 1991
Label: Sire/Warner Bros.
"I got no advice about anything/ Just f*ck it up yourself," Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascias quips on "Not You Again." His guitar work is casual aggression; his voice drunken warble. But there's also majesty at the bottom of the bottle, and the album explores the distance between transcendence and despondence. "Quicksand" would be a harrowing look at alcoholism if Mascias could muster up the energy to care, while a live version of the whirling epic "Thumb" is the perfect soundtrack for drunk driving (not that we condone that). Cheers.
