Biography

Dissection were a Swedish black metal band with ties to the seminal Gothenburg melodic death metal scene. In the 1990s, the band enjoyed underground popularity thanks to their three-song demo The Grief Prophecy, the limited-edition EP Into Infinite Obscurity and their first full-length, 1993's The Somberlain, which had an effect on both black and melodic death metal. They then signed with Nuclear Blast and released one album and an EP before Jon Nodtveidt was incarcerated for accessory to murder, effectively dissolving the band. Nodtveidt reformed Dissection with an entirely new lineup when he was released in 2004 and, two years later, a new album, Reinkaos, hit the shelves. In 2006, after Nodtveidt was denied a visa to the U.S. and Dissection were forced to cancel a tour there, the singer was found dead in his apartment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
