Dissection dropped the expansiveness of black metal on this final album, instead moving in a traditional Gothenburg metal direction, not an altogether surprising turn of events since they shared a house with At the Gates. Shorter songs, far more direct riffs and a tendency to groove marked this stylistic shift. Despite a decided increase in accessibility, Reinkaos retains the menacing, infernally dark vibe that identified their music in the past, due in no small part to the vocals (in English) courtesy of the then-recently-released-from-prison murderer/frontman Jon Nödtveidt.
