This Swedish black metal band's first record, The Somberlain, released in 1992, was dedicated to Norwegian black metal big shot Euronymous, who'd been murdered the year before, ostensibly for not being "metal enough." Thanks to the album's broad stylistic range, it is often cited as an influence on both black and melodic death metal. Truly, the band even veers into folk-metal with "Crimson Towers." The album was re-issued in 1997 (limited to 666 copies) and again in 2006; this version contains an entire disc of live recordings and demos.
