Side one of this long out-of-print platter features Dizzy Gillespie playing ballads over Johnny Richards' florid string charts. On these cuts, Gillespie played the trumpet with a robust, full tone. On the rest of the LP, Diz sat in with a crack studio band who played Buster Harding's swing arrangements. Here, Diz utilized a brassier style and often plays in his horn's upper registers.
