Though she kept busy with backup singing and movie cameos, the six years since the Cranberries split have been mostly quiet for Dolores O'Riordan, one of the most recognizable voices from the 1990s. Her long-awaited solo debut is a reminder of her winsome talents, helped by the broad textures of former U2 producer Youth. If the introductory single "Ordinary Day" and tender "Apple Of My Eye" are more restrained than most of the Cranberries catalog, big rockers like "When We Were Young" and "Loser" are more forceful. The ghostly "Black Widow" is one of the best, and most beguiling.
