Released:
Label: Columbia/Legacy
The first studio release by Ellis and his large ensemble was a hit in 1967, bringing in free-thinking rock and jazz fans alike. Ellis balanced Kenton/Maynard Ferguson-style bombast with Sun Ra-ish goofiness and Mingus' artistry. "Turkish Bath" and "Indian Lady" played on early FM rock radio yet the tracks don't feel dated like so much of the jazz fusion of the time.
