Label: Down
The first in a series courtesy of Phil Anselmo's post-Pantera project, The Purple EP finds the NOLA-based doom metal unit staking out the no man's land between Pantera's weirder stuff (think Far Beyond Driven) and the riff-happy stoner rock of another Anselmo offering, Superjoint Ritual. While he doesn't sound like the fight-picking cyclone of aggression he once was, he still growl-sings like a dude who's only happy when he's breaking his own maximum bench-press weight. The snaking guitars Pantera fans are junkies for come wriggling to the surface on "This Work Is Timeless."
