B-Room (Bonus Tracks)
by Dr. Dog
Released: Sep 2013
Take the title literally: "B" + "room" = "broom": This is the most cleanly melodic Dr. Dog album thus far, and yet it's still ragged, since Toby Leaman and Scott McMicken's voices will never be pretty; their childlike warbles sound more captivating than ever, especially on the coda of "The Truth." They never would've been able to do a rhythm record without the solid fulcrum of Eric Slick, who's been drumming now since their finest album, Shame, Shame. But Leaman's bass is really what "frees them from the heartache" on "Broken Heart" and the bluesy "Cuckoo."
