There's a six-string in there, too, but Drums and Tuba and Guitar just doesn't have the same ring. Strange as their instrumentation is, this off-kilter New Orleans trio is capable of some surprisingly strong, catchy songs, and Mostly Ape is their strongest, catchiest album. Later works added vocals into the mix, demystifying the dark, enigmatic electro-acoustic melange they perfected here. Great for late night drives, slow descents into paranoia, or romancing a hippo, these tuba-thumping musings are totally unique and tastefully weird.
