Jazz Violin Sessions

Jazz Violin Sessions by Duke Ellington
Released: Apr 2008
Label: Rhino Atlantic
When Duke Ellington met European jazz violinists Stephane Grappelli and Svend Asmussen, he paired them with Ray Nance, his own violin virtuoso, and cut this sumptuous chamber set. Duke and Billy Strayhorn help out with the piano accompaniment, but this is really the three violinists' show. It's hard to believe that music this beautiful stayed hidden away in Frank Sinatra's Reprise Records vaults for decades. Listen to Strayhorn's "Pretty Little One" and Duke's peerless "In a Sentimental Mood."
