4 is far more than a throwback to trippy times. Sure, Dungen toss in hints of classics: the "Foxy Lady" guitar shivers that open "Finns Det...," the sprawling Dead-like jams of "Samtidgt 1 (and 2)," the "Riders on the Storm" piano dings on "Ingenting...," the sunny baroque arrangements a la Love's Forever Changes. But within all that, they interweave textures of free-flowing, Euro dream pop (Stereolab, Air) adorned with light cymbal crashes, spry flutes and slow-gliding strings. It's a sweet mix of mad rock and delicate beauty that doesn't require any Swedish language skills to appreciate.
