The Long Run
Released: Sep 1979
Before the reunited Eagles released Long Road out of Eden, 1979's The Long Run was the band's parting gesture. Though slathered in showbiz burnout bordering on abject cynicism, the album's slick mishmash of funk ("The Long Run"), glam pop ("Heartache Tonight") and club-tailored robo-rock ("Those Shoes") amounts to a map for how AOR would unfold throughout the first half of the 1980s. The MVP award goes to Joe Walsh: In addition to contributing a re-recording of his excellent solo tune "In the City," the guitarist's love for sound effects and studio chicanery really does make the record.
