Though Ron Holzner used to play bass for Trouble, the member who truly sets this heavy Chicago sextet apart is electric violinist Rachel Barton Pine, known also for her baroque side career. Her proggish but classy fills never wear out their welcome, even if the album does (the second half could use more of her). But this is still mostly epic power-doom, with pounding group choruses that stick to your ribs, a possibly Christian apocalyptic bent, occasional Southern leanings, a fast Pentagram cover, and a tendency to speed to double-time halfway through songs. A cheap trick, but it works.
