by Electric Six
Released: Oct 2009
Label: Metropolis Records
Electric Six's sixth album is a hoot and a half. The band sounds sleazily hookful, minutely obsessed with the Midwest, and louder, wordier and funkier than it has in years. Sonic signposts include early Was (Not Was), Urge Overkill, Marilyn Manson, Hold Steady, and Gary Numan; innovations include industrial clanking, dub reverb and punk cumbia; subject matter includes the People Mover, Joe the Plumber, porn photo sessions, "kimono dragons," factory labor, wading through toxic waste, escaping Ohio and the inadvisability of scuba-diving in the Detroit River.
