Both as a DJ and as the founder of Berlin's BPitch Control label, Ellen Allien tends to favor techno of a snapping, kinetic stripe. Surprisingly, then, this soundtrack for a dance piece by choreographers Alexandre Roccoli and Severine Rieme keeps the beats at bay for nearly two-thirds of its 45-minute run -- and even then, the skeletal groove disappears nearly as quickly as it emerges. Instead, the single-track piece wends its way through delicate synth pulses, processed orchestral swells and droning guitar meditations before arriving at a lean, Boards of Canada-inspired conclusion.
