Ellie Lawson

Biography

Ellie Lawson was born in London and raised by her mother. Most of the songs that comprise her 2004 debut album, "The Philosophy Tree," were composed in her bedroom, with her mother in the other room. Inspired by everything from A Tribe Called Quest and the Fugees to Nick Drake and Kate Bush, Lawson's music is a soothing mix of rootsy singer-songwriter material with fluid beats. Call her a funkier Beth Orton if that makes things easy for you, but Lawson's catchy, conscious pop music is captivating and unique.
