BiographyA contemporary of Selena's, Houston-based Tejano singer Elsa Garcia was born in Monterrey, Mexico and raised on her grandfather's ranch, but she emigrated to the U.S. when she was relatively young. Nonetheless, the blonde-haired singer (she calls herself the only "guera" singing Tejano) maintained her ties to Mexican culture and remains committed to singing in Spanish. She's one of the few Tejano artists who did get radio play in Mexico in the 1990s, an honor she doesn't take lightly.
