Released:
Label: Island Def Jam
There are two versions of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida: the original Broadway cast recording and a "concept album" featuring in-studio collaborations between Sir Elton and a who's who of pop. This is the latter (which predates the former by a year). The lineup of singers is quite diverse: Sting, Shania Twain, Lenny Kravitz, James Taylor, Lulu, et al. John himself takes lead on a handful of numbers, the most notable of which is the hit "Written in the Stars," a duet with LeAnn Rimes. Interestingly, the song "The Messenger" would be cut from Aida shortly before it hit Broadway.
