Out Of Our Idiot

Out Of Our Idiot by Elvis Costello
Released: Dec 1987
Label: Elvis Costello Catalog
During the late 1980s, the ever-restless Elvis Costello collected various collaborations with famous friends (Jimmy Cliff, Nick Lowe, Allen Toussaint) and then threw in a few rarities, alternate takes and interesting cover versions (yes, Yoko Ono is given her due with "Walking on Thin Ice"). This may all feel slapdash but the results are surprisingly fun and breezy, with melancholy cuts from previous albums -- such as "American Without Tears" and "Big Sister" -- turned into upbeat rockers. The acoustic numbers with T-Bone Burnett have an intimate magic.
