Wrecking Ball
Emmylou Harris
Released:

Rhino/Elektra
Harris has made a career out of deftly interpreting songs recorded by others, and 1995's Wrecking Ball is no exception. This time around, she partners up with producer Daniel Lanois, whose ethereal production is a match made in heaven for her resilient voice. Echoing guitars and shuffling beats cradle Harris' wistful vocals on Neil Young's "Wrecking Ball." Other highlights are the sinister "Deeper Well," her plaintive interpretation of Dylan's "Every Grain of Sand" and the upbeat "Blackhawk." Wrecking Ball is not an album for country purists, but it remains a high point in her career.
