Mardraum is Enslaved's first progressive metal album. While modest recording techniques and sonic representations of Norse mythology are a thing of the past here, the daring shifts in tempo and blitzkrieging guitars make the record as essential a part of Enslaved's discography as any from their Viking metal period. Ten-minute opener "Storre Enn Tid" has literally everything: an ominous gathering of power, high-speed black metal sections, psychedelic breakdowns, completely awesome vocals and, of course, a weird spoken-word part.
