BiographyRune Reilly Kolsch (aka Rune, Rune RK and Enur) struck gold in 2003 with his first release, "Calabria," a sax-driven soca-house anthem; in 2005, DJ Alex Gaudino fused it with Crystal Waters' "Destination Unknown," releasing the mash-up as "Destination Calabria." (Destination No. 4 on the U.K. singles chart would also be correct.) Not to be outdone, Rune -- now recording as Enur -- re-released the track in 2007, featuring vocals from the Danish reggae singer Natasja Saad. Remixes from Mims and Vybz Kartel, a skin-baring video and nonstop club play helped ensure the song's ubiquity.
The Danish producer's populism hasn't cost him his credibility. When he teamed up with New York soulful-house mainstay Jerome Sydenham to remix Argy's "1985," it appeared on Hamburg's Liebe Detail, a heavy-hitter in the minimal-house niche. Even stranger is the revelation that the mysterious Ink and Needle as well as the Tattoo Rec label, whose vinyl-only singles are favorites of Europe's after-hours set, are also the work of Reilly Kolsch -- proof, perhaps, that an "underground" rep is also only skin deep.
