The One (Bonus Tracks)

The One by Eric Benet
Released: Jun 2012
Label: JORDAN HOUSE
A verse from Lil Wayne on "Red Bone Girl" is the least interesting thing about Eric Benet's sixth album. But he deserves credit for assisting this underrated neo-soul artist, even if his rhymes are throwaways. Weezy's presence indicates that Benet is experimenting with styles on The One, from the Stax soul of "Waitin'" and retro-'80s vibe of "Muzik" to the clunky reggae-pop of "Hope That It's You." He sounds most comfortable on familiar ground, however: the lush R&B balladry of "Harriet Jones" and "Runnin'" and the blush-inducing bedroom moans of "Come Together."
