BiographyFor lighter, happy reggae there are few (other than Jimmy Cliff) who can compete with Eric Donaldson. His voice is high-pitched and filled with an exuberant joy, occasionally slipping into falsetto while he sings of love, romance and the beauty of his native Jamaica -- most notably on his hit "Land of My Birth." Though he never quite caught on with lovers of conscious Roots Reggae, his songs have a far-reaching influence; "Cherry Oh Baby" (which won first prize in Jamaica's Song Festival) was covered by both the Rolling Stones and UB40. He's worked with many great producers, including Lee "Scratch" Perry, but his best work was done mostly with Bunny "Striker" Lee.
