Marshall is a mandolin player of stunning originality and virtuosity. Playing solo, he's invented a way to accompany himself with moving basslines and chord soloing. His work is akin to that of solo jazz guitar players such as Lenny Breau or Joe Pass, or the Pop-Jazz of Chet Atkins. He's at home with many different styles, including Tin Pan Alley standards, '60s Pop classics, classical pieces, fiddle tunes and even gypsy music. At first listen you'd swear there was more than one instrument playing. Atmospheric, compelling and well worth a listen.
