F*cked Up are so ambitious that they're the only hardcore band for whom going "back to basics" means a five-minute opener and a six-minute closer. The climax, the rousing title track "Glass Boys," is the best thing on the album, which is more grumpy than fast and more grungy than punk. Damian Abraham's truck-driver delivery is still compelling enough to glue together their scant melodicism, which is always welcome in, say, the jangly climax of "The Art of Patrons." Are they still hardcore? They're good enough that it no longer matters.
