The Knife's Karin Dreijer Andersson returns from Silent Shout with new co-producers, but the sound of Fever Ray's eponymous debut is strikingly similar in tone to the duo's acclaimed album. The electro-techno rhythms are toned down in favor of a slightly more organic backing featuring plucked guitars and gloomy orchestral washes, and Andersson no longer shrouds her voice in so much electronic processing. But the whole affair still glows with black-lit, gothic grandeur, baring its teeth while it cloaks its bitter heart in fever-dream arrangements.
