On the tougher tracks on their fifth album -- "Any Moment Now," "Living In A Dream," "Don't Look Down" -- Ontario's former Rainbow Butt Monkeys grind out riffy funk-metal that reveals distant Sabbath and Zeppelin roots in its stop-and-go groove. Scott Anderson's pushily grunted pep talks and hurt emo feelings, though, are a far cry from classic hard rock: "I wanna feel my confidence kick in," he barks. And "I'm just singing about ordinary life." If he is, it seems to be a joyless life of generalities. But when his pitch climbs into an approximation of Ozzy's falsetto, he lets fresh air in.
