There's always been a touch of techno in Kieran Hebden's music -- the rhythmic tendencies he's exhibited, the digital textures he's manipulated, the post-modern sheen he's applied. About time, then, that he'd produce an EP strictly for his dance peeps. The tracks on Ringers may have Hebden's hauntingly melodic and jazzy touchstones, but follow them through the familiar flourishes and they settle into 4/4 rides indebted to Detroit soul, Perlon clicks and the glacial beauty of Minimal Nation -- just the kind of thing a Four Tet fan might want to hear in a club at 4 A.M.
