The Moment

Jan 2003

Biography

Framing Hanley straddle the ever-shrinking divide between post-grunge heft and emo-pop's anthemic earnestness. Originally going by the name Embers Fade, the quintet came together in Nashville in 2005, and their formative sound actually contained more grunge than emo. Framing Hanley's first significant break came when Creed bassist Brett Hestla heard some raw demos the group posted to its MySpace site. Hestla brought the group down to his Florida studio, where he helped them record several more. These tracks were used to snag a contract with manager Jeff Hanson's fledging Silent Majority Group imprint (also home to Candlebox, Tantric and Fosterchild). While Framing Hanley slowly climbed success' ladder, they continued extensive touring, gradually working more and more emo-pop elements into their sound. The band dropped its debut album, The Moment, in 2007. Right around the same time, they recorded a striking modern-rock version of Lil Wayne's "Lollipop." The track went hardcore viral, garnering over a million plays after Framing Hanley posted it to their MySpace page. The band released its sophomore effort, A Promise to Burn, in May 2010.
