September Of My Years (Bonus Tracks)
Frank Sinatra
Released:
Jan 1965
Label:
Frank Sinatra Enterprises
Sinatra recorded this elegiac concept album when he hit 50; he really thought the end was near. This set of reflective ballads went on to become one the biggest sellers of his career. Gordon Jenkins' string-charts are even more steely and austere than usual, though they offer a dignified backing to Sinatra's soul-searching. The smash hit "It Was a Very Good Year" joins many newer songs, including the devastating "Once Upon a Time." That said, the two finest moments find Sinatra revisiting "Last Night When We Were Young" and "September Song." Sinatra's verdict? Life is unfair... but beautiful.
