Sinatra And Swingin' Brass
Released: Jan 1962
Label: Frank Sinatra Enterprises
Sinatra's first set with Neal Hefti is one of the finest jazz offerings in his catalog. Hefti was the arranger who modernized the Count Basie band, and his brisk, witty and swinging charts fit Sinatra like a tailored suit. Sinatra puts new spins on "I Get a Kick Out of You," "They Can't Take That Away from Me" and "At Long Last Love," and has tenor-sax legend Ben Webster solo on "I'm Beginning to See the Light." Sinatra and Hefti work together perfectly, showing off their own distinct personalities while echoing the sleek sound and punch of the Atomic Era Basie band. The only complaint is that it is over too soon.
