Released: Jul 2003
This set collects studio readings and live radio versions of the 1940s bowtie-era Sinatra singing the peerless work of George and Ira Gershwin. The Columbia studio ballads, such as "Embraceable You" and "Someone to Watch Over Me," may lack the deeper emotional depth and nuance of his later Capitol versions, but the sheer beauty of his voice during this period is astonishing. A looser, jazz-driven Frank shows up on many of the radio sides, with him romping through "'S Wonderful" and "Somebody Loves Me," skipping through "Soon" and doing a jazz ballad reading of "I've Got a Crush on You."
