Freakwater's seventh album finds the twangy folkies going electric with help from the members of Califone. But this doesn't mean that the songs aren't as sparse and desperate as their previous works; lovelorn lyrics of drunken, pill-swallowing self-pity still abound, especially on epic dirges like the political "Buckets Of Oil" (is that actual feedback?) and "Cathy Ann."
