The Faction weren't the only Nor-Cal skate punk band with a member of the Bones Brigade in the lineup: Free Beer from San Francisco boasted street-skating pioneer Tommy Guerrero and his brother Tony. Their 1981 debut rolled with punchy guitars, driving choruses and the laid-back, can't-be-bothered vocals of Mike Cassidy (who does a pretty good Jello Biafra imitation on "Disaster"). The songs here shake a teenage fist at rich kids, religious parents, "society," cops and the legal drinking age. Of course the best numbers are the ones that champion the then-underground skateboarding lifestyle.
