While losing a brother in Vietnam didn't make this family band lose its faith in mankind, the cynical "2002 -- A Hit Song" shows that the music industry (and a lack of financial success) was starting to wear Free Design down. The startling "Where Do I Go" sums up the pained confusion of the hippie era better than many more celebrated songs of the era, while the standard "Summertime" starts off as acid rock and then turns wonderfully jazzy. Free Design were just too weird to be a big pop group and too square for the counterculture. They deserved better.
