Biography
Frijoles Romanticos arose in Texas from the ashes of several different Tex-Mex acts, including veteran musicians who'd played with Jennifer Pena, Pete Astudillo and Alma Pulido. Forged with the determination to transcend Tex-Mex's limitations, the group broadened their scope, folding cumbia, funk, pop and rock under their expansive wings. The bet paid off; 2003's self-titled release was nominated for a Grammy for Best Tejano Album.
