Free Your Mind
Released: Oct 1970
Label: Westbound Records
Funkadelic opens its second album with a 10-minute declaration: "Free your mind and your *ss will follow." Ironically, the Detroit band subsequently tries to wrestle its elegantly wasted psychedelic rock into coherent songs, or at least a "Funky Dollar Bill." The results aren't as awesome as their self-titled debut, but there's plenty to love here, from the scrappy groove of "Fish, Chips & Sweat" to the six-minute hallucination "I Wanna Know If It's Good to You."
