Funkadelic's classic debut has offered funky transcendence and sampling gold to adventurous listeners ever since its 1970 release. Led by George Clinton's opening words, "If you will suck my soul I will lick your funky emotions," the Detroit group fused Motown harmonies, Muddy Waters blues and acid rock with electric grace, making rhythm and blues with as much inspiration (albeit little of the same discipline) as the mighty JB's. "I'll Bet You" and "Music for My Mother" are so loose they'll make you feel wasted.
