Since Garbage's last album, 2005's Bleed Like Me, robotic, post-apocalyptic dance-pop has turned into a mainstream sensation -- from Gaga to Robyn to Britney. So with their fifth release, the '90s alt-rock vets still fit right into the fold with their sexy-paranoid, electro-rock. But could any of those pop stars mix industrial dance so seamlessly with blasting harmonica ("Control"), shoegazed ballads ("Felt," "Beloved Freak") and snarling garage-rockers ("Man on a Wire")? And could any of them match Shirley Manson's slithering vixen snarl (here slightly tamed, yet still deliciously potent)?
