You may only know his name from the perennial New Wave hit "She Talks in Stereo," but Gary Myrick has had a surprisingly long and rich musical career. A Texas native, Myrick started out as a guitarist in the Austin blues/Roots scene before forming the Figures, who were featured on the Valley Girl soundtrack. He then had a short-lived musical partnership with John Waite, cowriting the international smash "Missing You" before getting back into Roots rock for the rest of the 1980s. During the next decade he formed Havana 3 A.M. with Paul Simonon of the Clash and became a busy studio musician. Myrick has worked with such legends as Stevie Wonder, Queen Ida, Bonnie Raitt and Brian Wilson. Lately he's been crafting noirish Country Blues numbers that could inspire David Lynch to make a gothic western. Myrick has a knack for keeping abreast of the times without selling himself out for fashion's sake.
