Fireworks Music / Water Music by George Frideric Handel
Released: May 1988
Label: Naxos
For eighteenth century royalty and "celebrities." Music for the Royal Fireworks, arranged here for strings, was scored for woodwinds in order to be heard outdoors during a 1748 London celebration. The "water" of Water Music refers to the Thames, on which King George I hosted a party on a barge in 1717.
