Evans' first album for Impulse Records is one of his best. The tension here lies between the arranger's alternately circular, floating and slowly building charts, and the dynamic solo statements made by members of his 14-piece band (grounded by the rhythm section of bassist Ron Carter, drummer Elvin Jones, and Evans on piano). This creates great movies for the mind.
