King of Philly is basically a glorified EP from one of hip-hop's most contentious yet rarely heard emcees. "Holla Back" is a formidable slice of Philly street hop that features a trickling piano line and flips a Jay-Z line from "Moment of Clarity" for the hook. Gillie does a good job of interjecting menace into his punchlines, such as threatening to "shoot the L.A. off your Dodger cap." Still, the EP's most memorable moment comes during lead single "Get Down on the Ground," which builds off a sample from Raising Arizona.
