Girls Against Boys
Beginning as a side project for three-fourths of seminal Dischord rockers Soul Side, Girls against Boys has steadily worked its way through seven full-length records; all except two for the Chicago-based Touch and Go label. Their unique brand of electric noise-groove, characterized by dueling bass attack, distorted haunted-house style keys and loopy, power-funk drums has chic written all over it. It sounds like something a bunch of Indie Rockers would listen to on the way to a bank heist. Scott McCloud's gritty, cigar smoke voice narrates sleazy, black leather soundscapes, crooning over noisy keyboard flange-outs and chest-crushing low frequencies.
