Girls' Generation's first international release is a frenetic hub of pop fizz that zips along from sappy, synthy ballads to sultry catwalk struts to kicky, quirky kitsch at a neck-popping pace. In short, it's K-pop. But it's also the efforts of a K-pop mega-group making a stab at the U.S. market. Thus, the head-spinning style shifts sometimes feel less like that hot-glued-together eclecticism so prevalent in much of K-pop and more like a search for direction. Or maybe more like a sassy, sexy scavenger hunt! In other words, we may not know who these Girls are yet, but they sure seem fun.
