Not to be confused with the numerous other Gladys Knight "Best-Of" compilations out there, Golden Years focuses on the diva's early work. Nearly four decades old, the songs are quaint and sad. "Letter Full of Tears" and "One More Lonely Night" are classically lovelorn: refreshingly bereft of cynicism and almost unbearably vulnerable. Though Gladys' godlike version of "Last Train to Georgia" is sorely missed, there are still enough weepers here to make a stone sigh.
